Six-Goal Second Period Fuels Pittsburgh over Nordiques

BEAVER FALLS, Pa.-- With a 6-1 win last week against the Mobsters, Pittsburgh looked to replicate that dominating performance from last week.

They did exactly that.

The River Monsters dominated the Soo Nordiques 8-2.

Pittsburgh held a significant shot advantage in the first period, none reaching the back of the net. A switch was turned during the intermission as the hometown team lit the lamp six times in the middle frame.

Jordan Huffman had two goals in the contest, while Joe DiTullio had a goal and two assists in the second-period six-goal barrage.

Ben Cunnigham and Kynan Tarnowski also had two assists in the period.

The River Monsters had a whopping 49 shots on net Saturday, an essential piece to the recent success.

"That was just part wearing them down," DiTullio said. "We knew we had to get this goalie on some of the like screen plays and get them moving a little bit. So we didn't really pass up any shots and just got everything on the net and crashed."

"We were flying out there," Huffman said. "Every shift we were getting down about getting opportunity after opportunity. But our coach kept telling everyone, keep your head in the game, and it will eventually [another will] come."

The River Monsters have outscored their opponents 14-3 in their past two games and have been firing on all cylinders the past two weeks, with each line having at least two points in the blowout win.

"[We've been] changing the lineup here and there," Huffman said. "We [as a line] played together at the beginning of the year, and then we got taken off a line, but tonight we looked really good out there."

"It'll be good to have one good line, but if we can even them all out, like tonight, and put a different combination out, it might work out like tonight."

The River Monsters hope to continue their run on the road in Flint on Saturday and West Michigan on Sunday afternoon.
